Research direction:
1.Evaluation of germplasm resources and discovery and analysis of functional gene in kiwifruit
2.QTL mapping of key traits and new cultivar innovation of kiwifruit
3.Innovation on future orchard production system for kiwifruit
International Cooperation:
Long-term cooperation relationships have been built with Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited (PFR), New Zealand, Wageningen University, Netherlandsand and Udine University, Italy to carry out research on kiwifruit whole genome chip construction, rootstock breeding and functional genome.
Representative Achievements:
1.Gene mining and utilization for tree resistant traits and fruit quality traits in kiwifruit
More than 400 germplasm resources of Actinidia have been collected and conserved, and a kiwifruit germplasm resource bank covering different geographic ecotypes was created. The evaluation system for the identification of resistance to salt, waterlogging, cold and Psa were established. Key genes such as BAM for cold resistance, ERF for waterlogging resistance, NAC for salt resistance, NPR1 and NDR1 for Psa resistance were digged using multi-omics techniques, and key structural genes for fruit coloration such as LDOX and MYB1 were identified; a transgenic technology system was constructed, and functional verification and regulatory network analysis of the above genes were completed, providing a basis for breeding.
2. Efficient breeding technology innovation and new variety breeding and utilization in kiwifurit
The team developed a SNP gene chip system and constructed the tetraploid A. arguta genetic map.
InDel markers to distinguish the authenticity of hybrid offspring and sex markers were developed; male plant bearing technology was also developed. The team selected and breeded waterlogging-resistant rootstock ‘Zhong Mi Kang Zhen 1 Hao’ and salinity-resistant rootstock ‘Zhong Mi Kang Zhen 2 Hao’, large-fruited, high-sugar, green-fleshed variety ‘Zhong Mi 2’, and A. delicious yellow-fleshed variety ‘Zhong Mi 3’, a series of new all-red kiwiberry varieties such as ‘Tian Yuan Hong’, ‘Ruby Star’, ‘Zhong Xia Hong’ and ‘Hong Bei’. The team developped ‘3+ model’ for green industrial development and four key technologies, ‘potted nursery propagation, mechanical pollination, ploidy arrangement of male and female plants, and harvesting index’.
Recent Awards and Publications:
The team won 6 provincial and ministerial awards, stipulated 11 national standards and agricultural industry standards, published 7 books, over 30 SCI papers in PBJ and HR, etc and was authorized 14 patents. More than 20 doctor degree and master degree students were graduated from the team.
