Research direction:
1. Collection, evaluation and utilization of pear germplasm resources
2. Genetic improvement and development of novel pear varieties
3. Research and application of molecular breeding technology in pear
4. Development and application of genetic transformation and gene editing in pear
5. Functional genomics and molecular mechanism research of characters in pear
International Cooperation:
International cooperation has been established with New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited (PFR) in the field of red-skinned pear breeding.
Representative Achievements:
1. The breeding of high-quality pear cultivars and integration of related cultivation techniques
Many influential pear varieties such as 'Zhongli No1', 'Zaomeisu', 'Zhongli No4', 'Hongxiangsu', 'Zaohongyu' and 'Danxiahong' were selected, approved and popularized in a large area in production. The simplified green cultivation techniques for improving pear quality and increasing efficiency were integrated, and widely applied in pear production.
2. Mapped important traits genes in pear and established marker assisted selection breeding platform.
Multiple genes controlling different pear traits, such as red skin, brown skin, flesh browning resistance, fruit size, and fruit spot size have been mapped, and associated molecular marker assisted selection breeding has been established. More than 10 papers have been published in Horticulture Research, BMC Genomics, Scientia Horticulturae and other SCI journals.
